Mother’s Day Purse Craft for Kindergarten
The spring months might be busy in the kindergarten classroom, but I’ve always loved taking some extra time to help students spoil their moms and the other special women in their lives for Mother’s Day. In this post, I’m going to share a Mother’s Day purse craft that will become a treasured keepsake for years to come.

Creating a Mother’s Day Purse Craft
This special craft is always fun for students to make and is very well-received by their moms and mother figures. Not only is it a great Mother’s Day gift, but it also serves as a kindergarten memento and a fun snapshot in time.
1. Choose a Recipient
Since students have many special people in their lives, the first step is for them to choose a recipient for this gift. Your students might decide to celebrate their own mom or another beloved family member. This makes the activity even more special and inclusive! (If your students can’t think of someone in their lives who would like a purse craft, they might like to use a briefcase craft instead!)
No matter who your students decide to honor with a purse craft, this keepsake will make every recipient smile. There are templates for mothers, grandmothers, and aunts. There is also a template with a fill-in-the-blank, so your student can gift this purse to anyone they wish!

2. Create the Purse Craft
This craft comes with an easy-to-use template that you can trace onto folded construction paper. Students can cut out and decorate a flower to attach to the front of the purse. If you want to get super-cute with it, you can trace or print the flower template onto decorative scrapbook paper so students can add a touch of pattern and extra color to their craft.
There is also a template for purse handles, which you can trace onto plain paper, black paper, or scrapbook paper that matches the flower on the front. The final result is so adorable, and students are always so proud of their creations!

3. Complete the Writing Activity
Once the purse cover is ready, it’s time to complete the inside. This is definitely the highlight of the Mother’s Day craft! I love to see all of my students’ answers as they complete this little writing activity. The responses can range from super sweet to a little bit silly!
The inside of the purse is filled with pages of “truths” about mom or their other chosen recipient. The student will complete sentence frames like, “My mom really likes to …” or “My mom always forgets to…”. It’s so fun to see what the kids come up with! As you watch your students fill out the pages, you’ll get the feeling that this will be a treasured creation for years to come.

Other fun page templates include drawing a picture of their mom, describing an outfit she wears that makes her look pretty, writing about what makes her laugh, or drawing the things that their mom keeps in her purse.
The great thing about this activity is that you can use all of the pages, a select few, or even just one! There is no right or wrong way to have your little ones complete this craftivity. In fact, you might decide to complete one page a day. By the end of the week, your students will be so excited to assemble all of their writing into the purse craft.
4. Assemble
Once the writing is complete, it’s time to staple the pages into the purse craft! Then your students can choose a coordinating ribbon to tie around the handles of the purse. Not only does this add a little bit of color, but it also keeps the purse closed and makes it feel more like a gift that their mom can open on Mother’s Day.

When Mother’s Day arrives, your students will be fully prepared to celebrate their moms and other loved ones with this purse. This is such a fun way to honor the moms, aunts, grandmas, and guardians in your classroom family!
5. Create a Father’s Day Craft, Too!
Since Father’s Day is often celebrated after school is out for the summer, this can be a great time to complete a coordinating Father’s Day craft. I have created a briefcase craft that helps students celebrate the special men in their lives. Your students will love spoiling their father figures just as much as the moms!
