Engaging Kindergarten Apple Activities
Apple activities can be such a helpful addition to kindergarten lesson plans! Whether you’re using them for a cute back-to-school theme or putting together a fun fall thematic unit, there are many ways that you can incorporate kindergarten apple activities into your classroom. I’m going to share some of my favorite go-to activities in this post!
13 Apple Activities for Kindergarten
From math practice to crafts and everything in between, these kindergarten apple activities will be a fun addition to your classroom this fall. You can use any of these activities individually or you can put them together into an apple thematic unit!
1. Apple Sorting
For the first activity, you can send home a note that asks students to bring their choice of red, yellow, or green apple to school. Once the apples have arrived, you can use it as a sorting activity. Students can sort the apples by color and then use a recording sheet to show the results.
2. Apple Taste Test
Another fun activity that also incorporates data collection is an apple taste test. After trying a slice of each color of apple, students can vote on which color is their favorite. You can graph and interpret this data together as a class. Students can follow along as they fill out their own recording sheet.
3. Sink or Float Activity
You can also use apples to help students practice making predictions. First, students can predict whether they think an apple will float or sink. After you have tested it out as a class, you can encourage students to make a prediction about whether apple seeds will float or sink. Once they have recorded their predictions, you can put apple seeds in water and see what happens!
4. Apple Glyphs
Students love to complete apple glyphs! This is a great way for students to share about themselves. First, they will complete the apple glyph book where they decide on things like the color of the apple or the number of seeds based on information about themselves. For example, if the student is 5 years old, they will draw 5 seeds in the apple on that page of the book. Once they have completed the booklet, students can create a craft to go with it!

5. Apple Stacking
Add some fall STEM challenges to your next apple unit! First, students love to see how many apples they can stack using playdough. This is a fun hands-on and cooperative learning activity.
6. Fill an Apple
For another challenge, students can see how many red squares they can fit inside an apple. You can give them two sizes of red squares so they can experiment with different combinations. This is also a great activity to send home as a fall family project.

7. Apple-Themed Literacy Centers
You can also add some apple fun to your literacy centers! Students can complete a variety of hands-on apple activities to help them practice letter identification, sight words, and more!
8. Apple-Themed Math Centers
In addition to literacy centers, apples can serve as inspiration for a variety of skills during math stations. Students can practice a variety of number sense skills with engaging apple-themed activities.

9. Apple Hole Punching
You can help students improve their hand strength and coordination with these apple-themed hole punching cards! Students will punch the apples that match the letters in the in the apple basket.
10. Link and Count Apple Task Cards
This is another fine motor practice activity that can be a great addition to an apple unit! Students will choose a card and then attach the correct number of links to match the numeral on the apple basket.
11. Play Dough Apple Counting
This play dough apple counting activity is always a hit with students! They can roll little balls of play dough to represent apples and then place the correct number on each tree-themed counting mat. This is a great addition to your math centers!
12. Cut and Glue Puzzle
Cutting is another fine motor skill that kindergarteners can always use a little more practice with. This apple cut-and-glue puzzle is a fun way for students to practice their scissor skills. All they need to do is cut each strip of the puzzle, put them in the correct order, and glue them onto a paper.

13. Apple Counting Basket Craft
I love to incorporate themed crafts into the kindergarten classroom as much as possible! This apple counting basket craft is a fun way for students to practice counting. Each student gets five apples that they can color either red or green in a combination of their choice. Then, they will add the apples to a basket craft and write the number of apples in the sentence frames provided.
