St. Patrick’s Day Activities for Kindergarten
Are you working on your March lesson plans and wondering what to do with your class on St. Patrick’s Day? I have you covered! I’m going to share some of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day activities for kindergarten. You and your students will love these activity ideas!

6 St. Patrick’s Day Activities for Kindergarten
You don’t have to put learning on the back burner in order to have some holiday fun with your students! These St. Patrick’s Day activities can be used throughout your daily learning routine. Students can practice a variety of important skills while enjoying some themed activities.
1. St. Patrick’s Day Literacy Centers
An easy way to incorporate a little bit of holiday fun is by using themed activities for your literacy stations.

For example, students can practice identifying middle sounds by sorting pictures based on vowel sounds. They can choose a gold coin and decide if they hear a long vowel sound or short vowel sound. They will sort the coins to the correct pot of gold based on what they decide.
2. St. Patrick’s Day Math Centers
You can also add some St. Patrick’s Day activities to your math centers! Students can explore a variety of math concepts with themed task cards and activities.

For example, this activity helps students explore teen numbers with the help of a leprechaun and ten frames! This math center helps students see that a teen number is a ten plus more. Students can write the corresponding number on a recording sheet in order to increase accountability for the activity.

3. Roll and Cover Addition Practice
Another fun activity for St. Patrick’s Day is roll, add, and cover! Students will roll two dice, add the numbers together, and then cover the sum on their game mat. Students can use themed mini erasers or gold coins for another touch of holiday fun but you can use any other manipulatives you have on hand.

This St. Patrick’s Day game mat is included in a set of four seasonal roll and cover addition mats that you can grab for free!
4. St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin
A sensory bin can be a fun addition to your St. Patrick’s Day classroom celebration. You can fill a bin with gold coins, green and gold pompoms, rainbow rice, or green pasta.

You can add task cards to the sensory bin for some literacy or math practice. For example, this St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin includes picture cards that students will find. They will identify the picture and write the corresponding word on their recording sheet. These are great for centers, morning work, or early finishers!

5. Leprechaun Crafts
Crafts are such a fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in kindergarten. Here are two of my favorite St. Patrick’s Day crafts that are always a hit with students!

The first is a leprechaun craft that doubles as a writing activity. You can use one of three writing prompts to accompany this craft:
- If I Were a Leprechaun
- How to Catch a Leprechaun
- If I Found a Pot of Gold
After students have had a chance to discuss and respond to the prompt, it’s time to create the leprechaun craft! This can be great listening practice for students, since they need to follow the step-by-step instructions to assemble the craft. It’s also a fun way for students to practice their fine motor skills.

The second craft is a pot of gold with a rainbow. We all know that finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow is lucky! So the perfect writing prompt for this craft is for students to write about a time when they feel lucky.
Both of these crafts look great on a seasonal bulletin board! Be sure to check out my blog post with leprechaun crafts if you want to take a closer look at these craftivities.
6. Rainbow STEM Activities
With all of this talk about finding gold at the end of a rainbow, it can be fun for students to enjoy some rainbow-themed STEM challenges.

First, students can help a ball travel to a finish line using a tunnel. They will design and build their rainbow tunnel with colorful strips of paper. Students can practice brainstorming as they come up with tunnel designs on paper. They also have to use trial and error to figure out how far apart the ends of the strips should be taped in order to create a tall enough arch for the ball to pass through.

Another fun rainbow-themed STEM activity is to create colorful carnations through capillary action. Students can explore color mixing as they create colorful water for this activity. They will place the carnations in the colored water and record what happens as the flowers gradually change color.
