Daily Schedule and Some Math Centers

November 4, 2013 misskindergarten 5 Comments

Hi friends! I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my daily schedule so it just worked out perfectly that one of my bloggy besties Susan threw a Daily Schedule Linky Party! I’ll share my schedule with you, then go check out her blog and take a peek at the other schedules that are linked up!
My Daily Schedule:
Early Birds attend from 8:00-11:20 {and we don’t stop moving!}
 Late Birds attend from 10:20-1:40
Every morning I pull my reading intervention group while the rest of the class works on their literacy centers for the week. During literacy centers we work on handwriting, phonics, read to self, listening to reading, art, and more! I have a whole post dedicated to our literacy centers that you can see {here}.
After our morning centers, we move onto our Language Arts focus for the week. We follow Houghton Mifflin curriculum and supplement where we need to, to incorporate common core and other important skills.
Our next 30 minute block is shared between math, social studies, science and art. We integrate science and social studies into most of our day, so we do tend to focus a lot on math and art. We are able to offer our students ample opportunities to work on following and listening to directions, and fine motor practice.
Here’s some of the math centers we’ve been working on the last few weeks.
We practice one-to-one correspondence  and writing our numbers 1-6. We all sat in a circle, while one student rolled the number cube and counted the candy. Then we ALL traced over the number that was rolled. Then we passed the cube to the next person. This was such a fun game!

{this activity is from my Halloween Games and Centers}
 How fun are these cubes!? I always just make my own cubes for my centers, but they NEVER hold up and I just have to remake them every year. So when Erica shared about her friend’s KiddoCubes, I KNEW I had to get my hands on them quick! These are 4″x4″ and the perfect size for little hands. It’s super easy to slide the pictures you want in and they match my classroom colors! {bonus!} If you are looking for some cubes for your class {for math OR literacy centers} I highly recommend these!
We also worked on writing and representing our numbers. I just love write & wipe pockets!

I found these awesome number stamps in the Target dollar spot last year. They are so fun because they’re dotted, so the kids stamp AND then trace the numbers!
{stamping unit coming soon!}
The early birds are at snack and specials while the late birds are doing math. Then we have our 20 minute overlap for sharing, star of the week and calendar math.
Have more questions? Please leave me a comment or send me an email and I will do my best to answer!
Now head on over to Susan’s blog and share your daily schedule!

THIS is why we do it! Building readers who are CONFIDENT in themselves & show excitement for learning. Once that confidence emerges, those readers shine! ☀️
