Kindergarten Classroom Management Ideas

I’m always on the lookout for fun, new ideas and I love being crafty. Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft stores are among one of my favorite places to pick up crafts and supplies for my classroom. So I was super excited when they asked me to be part of their #teachercreativity blog hop! Today I am sharing with you a fun classroom management idea. Be sure to check out the other bloggers listed below this week to see what creative ideas they’ve come up with!
As you may know by now, I love to change up my classroom management ideas and motivate my kiddos to stay engaged and interested in our learning. In October I shared my Build a Jack-o-lantern incentive idea and it was a huge hit! So for the winter months, I thought it would be fun to have my class build a snowman!
As a class, we work together to earn pieces to build a snowman. When we have earned all the pieces, we get a reward! The rewards usually consist of extra recess, five minutes of free-time, or playing a game as a class. They don’t need to cost money, but are very motivating for my students to achieve.
To make the snowmen, you will need felt, pom-poms and magnet strips. I stopped by Jo-Ann to pick up all my supplies and used my teacher discount! Jo-Ann is very loyal to their teacher customers and offer a teacher discount every time you shop! If you aren’t already signed up for their teacher reward program, you can do so {here}.
I used a snowman template to trace the body, then cut it out of white felt.
I also cut out a hat, scarf, mouth and triangular nose. I decided to use black pom-poms for the eyes and buttons {they stick really well to the felt!} but you can always use circular shapes cut from felt.
I added magnet strips to the back of the snowman body so I could stick it up on whiteboard.
Then I placed all the small pieces in a little pail that I also picked up at Jo-Ann.
When I see my students working well as a group, following directions quickly and following our classroom rules, I pick a felt piece out of the pail and add it to our snowman. The felt sticks right to itself!
Once the snowman is complete, we earn our reward!
This would also be a fun incentive to use for table groups. Just cut out enough pieces for each table and place them in separate pails. Then when you see a table following directions, they can earn piece of their snowman!
Let me know if you try this out with your classroom! And don’t forget to sign up for the teacher rewards program!
